![]() ![]() It is huge! The main game will take a really good chunk of time to complete, but if you want to try and do all the side missions you will find lots of your time drained away whilst playing this. In an age where games are judged on their length, Okami is right up there with the best of the top games. I never felt like i was thrown in at the deep end and left to fend for myself. The learning curve is fantastic - it is perfect in fact. The game is really playable too - it is one of those titles that is really easy to pick up, and a challenge to master. In terms of sound, the game is pretty good too - it enhances rather than overpowers the experience.Though, as other reviewers have mentioned, the way the people 'speak' can grate after a while, though i found i could switch it off in my head and concentrate on the speech bubbles instead. One thing you cannot fault Okami on is it's style and presentation. It is like looking at a moving painting most of the time, and some of the effects are truly impressive. Graphically there is no game out there that has the same style as Okami - FACT! It is a stunning looking game, and you can see the amount of effort and care taken with the graphics. It isn't too complicated and adds a little bit more to an already great experience. Throughout the game you solve puzzles and fight enemies using your celestial brush which means that you paint over the screen to achieve your goals in specific scenarios - such as making a water spout to allow you to rise up onto a high level in the mountains, drawing a bomb to blow up a hidden passage or damage an enemy, and these are just a few to mention - i don't want to spoil the game by giving all it's best features away!!As other people have said, it can be quite hard to get your head round using this system, and it does take a little bit of practice, but the game allows you to make mistakes when learning all the 13 main brush techniques.Īs you progress you can improve the stats of Amaterasu so that she has more health, more inkpots (trust me, you want as many of these as you can get hold of later in the game!) and you can upgrade weapons too.You can earn more 'praise' and godhood by doing side tasks such as restoring areas of the landscape and trees, or by feeding the native animals. And it won't be to everyone's taste i am sure, but for the serious gamer looking for something a bit different, this is definitely the game to buy! ![]() ![]() The game is hard to describe in terms of it's genre, but basically it is like a platformer/puzzler in a fully 3d world with lots of missions to perform. Throughout the adventure you have a travelling companion who is there to train you, offer advice, and generally provide the humour (and there is some really funny stuff in here, hidden away admittedly so as not to overpower the gamer) and he is a bug called Issun. Your mission in the game is to rid the land of Nippon of Okechi, an evil spirit that is putting a curse on the land and it's inhabitants. You play Amaterasu, a wolf goddess (how many games can honestly say that when describing their main character). After playing it i decided to go and buy the full game, and i really wasn't disappointed by the quality of the game.įor a start, the premise is unique. I had a free demo of this game on the cover of a magazine and decided to give it a trial run. ![]()
